for the project BASIL – Brainwave driven digital Assistance System for motor-Impaired peopLe experts from different industries and countries worked together. Research, economy and local regions benefit from this. Sensorik-Bayern GmbH and IT experts from the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen developed an assistance system for motor-impaired people under the joint umbrella of the sensor network. Users' wishes are "translated" into the language of devices and systems in their own homes via the recording of brain activity and sent to a control device, which then enables simple operating procedures in the area of home automation (e.g., switching TV and radio sets on and off or raising blinds). Also conceivable: Emergency call to relatives or care services.

Other possible applications of the project results include the diagnosis of early-stage Alzheimer's disease, brain training therapy for ADHD, and neurofeedback. The automotive industry and the field of driver assistance systems are further fields of application. The BASIL prototype can be used for research on the detection of microsleep or fatigue. Further information can be found in the Factsheet.
