Hand injuries account for more than one third of occupational accidents in Germany. A psychological burden for patients due to the aesthetic and functional impairment as well as considerable costs for the health care system are long-term consequences. Rapid restoration of hand functionality is therefore of personal and social importance.

Sensorik-Bayern GmbH is now driving research and development in this area by participating in the 3DHandSens project with TU Dresden and Fraunhofer IWS. The project is funded by the EKFZ Foundation. A 3D-printed exoskeleton specifically adapted to the patient with integrated, miniaturized sensor technology is to enable precise measurement of the alignment of finger joints.
