Im BASIL – Brainwave driven digital Assistance System for motor-Impaired peopLe In BASIL - Brainwave driven digital Assistance System for motor-Impaired peopLe - experts from different industries and countries are working together. Research, industry and the region benefit from this. Sensorik-Bayern GmbH and IT experts from the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen are developing an assistance system for motor-impaired people under the joint umbrella of the sensor network. Users' wishes are "translated" into the language of devices and systems in their own homes via the recording of brain activity and sent to a control device that then enables simple operating procedures in the field of home automation (e.g., switching TV and radio sets on and off or raising blinds). Also conceivable: Emergency call to relatives or care services.
Further potential applications of the project results are currently also emerging in the areas of diagnosis of early-stage Alzheimer's disease, brain training therapy for ADHD or neurofeedback. Other fields of application include the automotive industry and driver assistance systems, where the BASIL prototype can be used for research into the detection of microsleep or fatigue.
